VoIP Technology

VoIP technology is the future of telephone services for home and business use. Although VoIP technology has been around for well over a decade now it wasn’t until recently that it has gained more popularity and exposure. This is due to the prevalence of Broadband Internet service all over the country and in most developing nations as well.

VoIP Technology basically takes your phone conversation and transfers it over the public internet or a dedicated network the same way other data is transferred. Using a special device called a VoIP phone adapter or Broadband adapter your phone conversation which is an analog signal is converted into a digital signal. This allows it to be quickly transferred in little data packets upon reaching the other end the data packets are reassembled and then converted from the digital signal back into an analog signal allowing the receiving end to get the message.

Many think you have to use a special internet phone or broadband phone for making VoIP calls but any home phone will work. However, if you are going to use Skype and make free VoIP calls then make sure you get the Internet phone for that because that does require a special broadband phone. Businesses are starting to use VoIP technology as well especially for those businesses that have multiple offices. The ability to have a branch office extender really cuts down on their phone bill.
